FAQ: Wildcard SSL Certificates
What does a wildcard SSL certificate cover?
If you purchased a wildcard SSL certificate for *.yourdomain.com.my. The SSL will secure all first-level subdomains of yourdomain.com.my. For example:
- sub.yourdomain.com.my
- api.yourdomain.com.my
- mail.yourdomain.com.my
However, it will not secure (second-level subdomains):
- domain.sub.yourdomain.com.my
Why doesn’t yourdomain.com.my work with my wildcard certificate?
The * in a wildcard SSL certificate only matches one level of subdomains. In this case:
- *.yourdomain.com.my matches sub.yourdomain.com.my but not www.sub.yourdomain.com.my because www.sub adds an additional level.
If you would like to secure www.sub.yourdomain.com.my you can purchase a separate SSL for www.sub.yourdomain.com.my.
