What is the difference between transferring domain ownership and a registrar transfer?
- Transfer of Domain Ownership:
This happens when the legal ownership of a domain is updated, but the domain remains with the same registrar. In this case, IP ServerOne is your registrar.Example:
If your domain is currently managed under Account A (e.g., a representative company), invoices are billed to that company, making them the rightful owner. If you decide to take over management and have invoices billed directly to you or your company, this is considered a transfer of ownership. To proceed, the current owner must:
- Submit a ticket or email cs@ipserverone.com requesting the transfer to your account.
If the current owner cannot comply, you may need to complete a form and provide supporting documents to prove the domain belongs to your company.
- Registrar Transfer:
This involves moving the domain from one registrar to another, often for better pricing, features, or support. How it works:- You need to provide the EPP code (authorization code) to your new registrar.
- Once the transfer is complete, your new registrar will fully manage the domain, including renewals, WHOIS updates, and nameserver changes.
We hope this clarifies the difference between transfer ownership and registrar transfer but if you have any further questions, do not hesitate to reach out to us by emailing to cs@ipserverone.com.
