How to Export a Zone File
What is a Zone File?
A zone file is a text file containing all the DNS records for a specific domain. Exporting a zone file is useful for tasks like backing up DNS configurations or transferring DNS settings to a new provider.
Exporting a Zone File in cPanel
- Log into cPanel: Use your cPanel credentials to access your account.
- Go to the Zone Editor: Navigate to Domains > Zone Editor.
- Manage DNS Records: Find your domain and click on Manage to view its DNS records.
- Download DNS Records: While cPanel doesn’t offer a direct “Export” button, you can manually save the records displayed here by copying them to a text file. Alternatively, contact your hosting provider for assistance with a full zone file export.
Exporting a Zone File in DirectAdmin
- Log into DirectAdmin: Access your DirectAdmin control panel.
- Navigate to DNS Management: Go to DNS Management under your domain settings.
- Export DNS Records: While DirectAdmin doesn’t have a straightforward export feature, you can manually copy the DNS records listed and save them to a .txt file for backup purposes. Hosting providers may also assist with exporting a complete zone file.
⚠️ Important Note: For a full zone file export in IP ServerOne DNS hosting, you may need to contact support@ipserverone.com, as these interfaces do not always offer direct export options.
