Introduction

SpamAssassin is a powerful tool for filtering out spam emails, but sometimes legitimate emails can mistakenly be flagged as spam. This guide explains how to configure SpamAssassin on the DirectAdmin platform to prevent false positives and ensure that legitimate emails make it to the inbox.

Prerequisites

  • Access to DirectAdmin with the required privileges to modify SpamAssassin settings.
  • Basic understanding of email filtering and spam settings.

1. Log into DirectAdmin

2. After login, can navigate to “Spamassasin Setup” and click it.

3. Once entering the Spamassasin setup, there’s two part that need to setup:

  • On the Where do you want the spam to go section, choose the Inbox (don’t block it)
  • For Do you wish to rewrite the subject of a spam email?, choose the first option which are Yes, set the subject to the following: *****SPAM*****

3. Once done, click the Save button at the bottom of the page to apply the changes.

By doing this, you’ll prevent emails wrongly tagged as spam from being moved to the spam folder, and they will instead be delivered to the inbox.

Conclusion

Following these steps allows you to ensure that legitimate emails are not classified as spam by SpamAssassin. Regularly monitoring and adjusting the spam score threshold based on your needs can help maintain email deliverability. If problems persist, you can further customize settings or whitelist specific senders.
