How to check sender’s email address – Jaring

Last updated on |

Introduction

Recently, Jaring users have reported an increase in spam emails, making it challenging to determine if emails are coming from legitimate sources. To help users confidently identify authorized communications, this guide outlines a few simple steps to verify the sender’s authenticity. By following this process, users can reduce the risk of responding to suspicious emails and help protect their accounts.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Log in to Your Jaring Account

Access your Jaring email account through webmail by logging in at https://webmail.jaring.asia.

Step 2: Check the Sender of the Email

If you’re uncertain about an email’s authenticity, begin by checking the sender details. In this example, let’s verify an email with the subject line “Microsoft Outlook Test Message”.

  1. Open the email by clicking on it so it’s highlighted in blue.
  2. Click on “More” (indicated by a red circle in the interface) to expand additional options.
  3. Select “Show Source” from the list of options. This reveals technical information about the email’s origin.

Step 3: Verify the Sender’s Email Address

After selecting “Show Source,” locate the Return Path field in the email header information:

  • Legitimate Emails: If the return path or sender’s email address ends with @outlook.com, the email is likely genuine, as it is consistent with Microsoft Outlook’s official domain.

  • Suspicious Emails: If you see an unfamiliar email address or a return path that only shows <>, this may indicate a spam or spoofed email.

Example

If the return path displays @outlook.com, you can verify that the email is genuinely from Microsoft Outlook. However, if the return path does not match or shows <>, this is a strong indication that the email is likely spam.

Conclusion

By following these steps, Jaring users can identify emails from authorized senders and avoid potential spam. This verification process is an easy and effective way to ensure the authenticity of emails.
