Introduction

This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to move a domain from one SmarterMail server to another. It is intended for users who need to migrate domains between SmarterMail servers. The guide will walk you through exporting domain data, transferring files, and configuring the domain on the new server.

Prerequisites

  • Access to both the source and destination SmarterMail servers.
  • Administrative access to both servers.
  • Knowledge of the file system locations for SmarterMail on each server.
  • Sufficient storage space on the destination server to accommodate the domain’s data.

Step-by-Step Guide

Let’s say SmarterMail is installed at the default path on both source and destination servers:

C:\Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service
C:\SmarterMail\Domains\[yourdomain.com]

1. Copy C:\SmarterMail\Domains\yourdomain.com from the source server to the destination server using a FTP client (e.g., FileZilla, WinSCP).

2. On the destination server, edit C:\Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service\domainList.xml

3. Add below line into domainList.xml
C:\Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service\domainList.xml

4. Open Run by pressing Windows button + R, type control admintools. It will open a window, look for Services and click on it.

5. Look for SmarterMail Service and restart it by right click on it, then click ‘Restart’.

6. You should now see the domain listed under the destination SmarterMail webmail.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can efficiently move a domain from one SmarterMail server to another. Ensure that all domain data is backed up and transferred correctly before finalizing the migration. After migration, test the email deliverability thoroughly to confirm its proper functionality on the new server.
