Smartermail: Email Aliases
Introduction
Email alias is a feature that allows users to create alternative email addresses that forward to one or more existing email accounts.
Aliases are not actual mailboxes but rather forwarding mechanisms. They can be used for various purposes, such as simplifying communication, managing group emails, or protecting the privacy of personal email addresses.
Note: Even though an alias acts as an email address, users cannot log in to an alias like they do a standard email address; there is not a mailbox associated with the alias and no email is ever actually stored for the alias itself. Instead, emails are simply sent to the list of addresses provided for the alias and are stored in the mailboxes of the individual users.
Prerequisites
- Access to your SmarterMail account with administrative privileges.
Steps to create Email Aliases
1. Browse to your Webmail and Login into your Email Account as Admin.
2. After login, go to More > Domain settings
3. Select Accounts on the left panel
4. In the accounts tab, navigate to Aliases > New
5. Creating Aliases
- Enter the alias name (the email address you want to create, such as management@domain.com)
- On the name of the alias. This name will be used to create the email alias address. For example, if you want to use the email alias address “management@domain.com“, you’d simply use “management” for the Name.
- Add the destination email addresses to which emails should be forwarded. You can add multiple recipients.
NOTE: In this case, when we send an email to management@domain.com both user1@domain.com and user2@domain.com will receive the email.
6. Save the changes to create aliases.
